Cold Weather Running

Dress as though it is 20°F warmer than the real feel outside. Example if it’s 30° but the real feel is 20° you want to dress likes it’s 40° outside.

Layers are your friend. More people actually overheat running in the winter because they don’t wear proper layers to shed them as they get warm or to add back on as they near the end of their run

Invest in some yak-traxs or add screws to an older pair of shoes. Ice and slippery conditions can be really frustrating, wear shoes with proper traction and plan to slow down your pace to be sure of your footing.

In snow, you may want to opt for a trail shoe vs road. Running in snow creates a lot of different step patterns and is more similar to running on a trail than the flat pavement.

Adjust your plans as needed. Training programs need to work for you, not against you. Swap longer runs for the nicer days and make sure you add in cross training/keep up with strength work.

Do a proper warm up and cool down. When the temps dip, it means your body is going to take a little longer to warm up
