30k Race Recap from BARC Member Bekah
The race (30k) was... not my best. I started out feeling good and felt like I was well hydrated and fueled (toast w/ peanut butter for breakfast). I stuck with normal routine of fueling every 45-60 min with gels/tailwind/almond butter. At mile 6 I had a strange tearing sensation in my left calf that I've never felt before. I stopped to stretch and massage it which helped a bit. I ended up surrendering to a walk run rhythm for the remainder of the course due to consistent calf cramping.
Was this a feel good, top of my game race? Heck no. But the mental game of pushing forward, one foot in front of the other, and staying as positive as possible to get to the finish was the reward. It was hard and I did it! Thanks to my coaches who have told me I can do hard things, I was able to persist and accomplish.
This is my short race recap. I also found the most perfect heart rock on the trail when I was crying and decided to walk a bit. It lifted my spirits.
